Au printemps dernier, l’artiste Julien Lombardi m’a demandé un texte autour de la restitution des objets africains spoliés et déposés dans les vitrines et les réserves délicates du patrimoine inaliénable français. J’ai écrit un état des lieux, celui d’un corps mourant, l’une de ce courtes « lettres du palais » qui composeront bientôt un livre sur une institution devenue gaz. Je partage ici « inventaire des objets d’embarras », dans une version un peu différente de celle qui accompagne les images du projet de Julien Lombardi et Guillaume Chamahian issues d’une commande du Centre National des Arts Plastiques « FLUX, une société en mouvement » (catalogue publié par les Editions Poursuite / CNAP.)

Last spring, the artist Julien Lombardi asked me for a text about the restitution of African objects plundered and deposited in the showcases and delicate reserves of the French inalienable heritage. I wrote an inventory, that of a dying body, one of these short «letters of the palace» which will soon compose a book on an institution that became gas. I share here «inventory of embarrassing objects», in a version a little different from that which accompanies Julien Lombardi and Guillaume Chamahian’s images commissioned by Centre National des Arts Plastiques for « FLUX, a society in movement » (Catalogue published by Editions Poursuite / CNAP, Paris)
