Pour cette deuxième série de rencontres de sa recherche « Distant Islands, Spectral Cities », Olivier Marboeuf continue d’explorer et de relire, avec un large éventail d’invité·es (auteurices, artistes, activistes, universitaires) les luttes et célébrations, les modes de présence et esthétiques des diasporas caribéennes à Paris et à Londres. Prenant comme point de départ le bouillonnement des années 80, ce voyage dans l’espace et le temps revisite des filiations discrètes, des alliances fragiles et des lieux oubliés. Par sa méthode collective et chorale qui célèbre l’écho et la répétition, « Distant Islands, Spectral Cities » propose un récit en spirale qui revitalise les évènements passés et pense les archives comme les « blueprints » d’une émancipation à venir, comme des contre-récits à pratiquer face à la tornade pacificatrice de la gentrification. Le tissage improvisé de cette cartographie ouvre d’autres chemins où se rencontrent les luttes dispersées de la Caraïbe et les écritures fugitives du graffiti, les violences policières et les puissances du carnaval, les statues coloniales et les monuments fluides des sound systems.
Associant conférences et marches urbaines, projections et musique, documentaires sonores et lectures poétiques, ce programme recompose un autre paysage caribéen « en des lieux sans merci », une scène politique du souffle et de la joie, de la ruse et de la résistance.

For this second series of gatherings in his ‘Distant Islands, Spectral Cities’ research project,Olivier Marboeuf continues to explore and re-read, with a wide range of guests (authors, artists, activists, academics) the struggles and celebrations, modes of presence and aesthetics of the Caribbean diasporas in Paris and London. Taking as its starting point the ferment of the 1980s, this journey through space and time revisits discreet filiations, fragile alliances and forgotten places. Through its collective and choral method, which celebrates echo and repetition, ‘Distant Islands, Spectral Cities’ proposes a spiral narrative that revitalises past events and thinks of archives as the ‘blueprints’ of a future emancipation, as counter-narratives to be practised in the face of the pacifying tornado of gentrification. The improvised weaving of this cartography opens up other paths where the dispersed struggles of the Caribbean meet the fugitive writings of graffiti, where police violence meets the power of carnival, where colonial statues meet the fluid monuments of sound systems. Combining discussion panels and urban walks, screenings and music, sound pieces and poetry readings, this programme recomposes another Caribbean landscape ‘in places without mercy’, a political scene of breath and joy, of cunning and resistance.
